Something for everyone on Everyman Theatre’s summer slate

The Everyman Theatre has announced its summer programme, featuring a fantastic mix of classic and contemporary theatre, music, comedy and much more.

The season showcases the work of some of Ireland’s finest established and emerging playwrights and will also provide the additional spice of circus and puppetry shows.

Everyman artistic director Sean Kelly said the theatre is delighted to be presenting a range of work in conjunction with the Cork Midsummer Festival. This includes an unmissable update of the classic Jungle Book from the British Metta Theatre which will feature street dance, circus, and beatboxing.

There will also be a visit from award-winning queen of counter-culture, American Penny Arcade, and the welcome return of Cork’s favourite chanteuse, Camille O’Sullivan.

Come September, you can look forward to the return of Druid with their anniversary production of Martin MacDonagh’s The Beauty Queen of Leenane, starring Aisling O’Sullivan and Marie Mullen.

Cork’s favourite chanteuse Camille O’ Sullivan makes a welcome return to the Everyman Theatre as part of its summer programme.

Julie Kelleher will return to the rehearsal room to direct a production of Frank McGuinness’ superb debut play, The Factory Girls.

As ever, the Everyman is supporting the finest local theatre talent and bringing to their stage revivals of two of the most interesting new works made in Cork in the past six months.

Both pieces have the fact of a real-life central character in common, but beyond that, they are hugely different.

In Alice Barry’s Violet Gibson: the Woman Who Shot Mussolini, we bear witness to the hopes and aspirations of a fiercely intelligent, and deeply misunderstood, individual whose obscure adventures are well worth the watch; and perhaps slightly better known are the public exploits of Michael Collins and his diplomatic efforts in London during the War of Independence in Patrick Talbot’s A Great Arrangement, where audiences will witness the intriguing addition of his private correspondence with Kitty Kiernan.

Also visiting will be Des Bishop, Two and a Half Tenors, Don Baker & Clara Rose, A Night in Venice, Circus Of Horrors, Tales of the Unseen, and Karen Underwood and guests.
