David Beckham 'most famous black man'

David Beckham has been named Britain's most famous black man.

A Channel 4 documentary claims the Manchester United star is the British black community's greatest icon.

Black Like Beckham cites his "bling bling" taste in clothes, cars and music as evidence that he is black in all but looks.

Black celebrities including Romeo from So Solid Crew, West Ham goalkeeper David James and singer Beverley Knight are all featured on the Beckham programme, to be screened next month.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: "The programme sets out to prove that Beckham is Britain's most famous black man.

"He may really be white but he has borrowed and begged so much from black culture that he should be considered black.
