Prices up slightly in March

Average consumer prices rose 0.2% in March compared with March 2013, official figures have revealed today.
Consumer Prices in March, as measured by the CPI, increased by 0.7% in the month. This compares to an increase of 0.4% recorded in March of last year.
The most notable changes over the year were increases in Education (+4.6%), Miscellaneous Goods & Services (+4.2%), Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+3.5%) and Restaurants & Hotels (+2%).
There were decreases in Clothing & Footwear (-4.2%), Communications (-3.1%), Furnishings, Household Equipment & Routine Household Maintenance (-2.8%) and Transport (-2.1%).
