Singer Taylor Swift has topped this year’s Forbes list of the world’s 100 highest paid celebrities, earning $170m (€153m) mainly thanks to her hugely successful 1989 world tour.
The ‘Shake It Off’ singer, 26, came ahead of boy band One Direction, currently on a break, who took second place with $110m.
“The pop superstar smashed the Rolling Stones’ North American touring record, grossing $200m on the continent en route to a quarter-billion dollars in total for her 1989 World Tour,” Forbes said.
With earnings of $95m, American author James Patterson came in third. US television personality Dr Phil McGraw and Real Madrid soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo were tied fourth with earnings of $88m, the magazine said.
The other top 10 spots were held by American comedian Kevin Hart, British singer Adele, and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi alongside US radio hosts Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh.
“The world’s 100 highest-paid celebrities pulled in $5.1bn pre-tax over the past 12 months, more than the GDP of Belize, Gambia and Bhutan combined,” Forbes said.
Swift is ahead of fellow chart-topping pop stars Adele at No 9 with $80.5m, Madonna at No 12 with $76.5m, Rihanna at No 13 with $75m and Katy Perry at No 63 with $41m.
Swift’s DJ ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris landed at No 21 on the magazine’s list with $63m.
Kim Kardashian is featured on the magazine’s cover. She’s No 42 on the list with $51m. Forbes says 40% of her paycheque this year came from her mobile game “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood”.
The game’s maker, Glu Mobile, is scheduled to release an app starring Swift later this year.
