A 7-month-old boy was attacked and killed by a dog in Dayton, Ohio, according to police.

Police said that the baby’s step-grandmother was watching the infant for the day when her dog attacked and killed him on Sunday afternoon.

A Montgomery County coroner’s investigator said the baby — whose name has not been released — is from another state and an autopsy was planned for later last night.

An animal control officer removed the dog.

CBS-affiliated television station WHIO reported that a neighbour called 911 in a desperate effort to get help.

“She just knocked on my door, bangin’ on my door, She had a baby in her hand. The baby’s not breathing. You need to get here now,” the neighbour told the dispatcher.

Montgomery County records show an American Staffordshire terrier — which resembles a pit bull — is registered at the address where the baby was killed.

A June 3 police report shows the same dog attacked and injured another dog before it got away.

People who gathered at the home after the attack cried and screamed.

Police said that the step-grandmother was extremely distraught.
