Mumbai suspect says he was tourist

THE gunman accused of carrying out last year’s bloody siege of Mumbai has retracted his confession, saying police tortured him into admitting his role in the attacks.

Mohammed Ajmal Kasab told the court that he went to Mumbai as a tourist and was arrested 20 days before the siege. On the day of the attacks, he said police took him from his cell and shot him to make him look like a gunman.

Kasab could face the death penalty if convicted.
