Charges over shoot-out

THE brother of an accused drugs lord faces charges including illegal gun possession and shooting with intent, police in Jamaica said yesterday.

The charges against Leighton Coke are linked to the bloody stand-off between police and gunmen during the search for alleged drug kingpin Christopher “Dudus” Coke in May.

At least 73 civilians and three security officers died during the four-day confrontation.

Police said in a statement today that Leighton Coke was a leading figure in the drugs ring that his brother ran in the eastern United States from a slum in Jamaica.

Leighton Coke is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.

Christopher Coke is in jail in New York and has pleaded not guilty.
