Who’s out of touch?

Your front page article, ‘Priests say Church out of touch on family planning’ by Stephen Rodgers (Irish Examiner, Febraury 1) intrigued me.

The article was about a survey carried out by the Association of Catholic Priests on the Church’s teachings around family life, Fr Flannery of that Association commenting on the survey results is quoted as saying that “there is a clear message that the teaching of the Church is seriously out of touch even with the church-going traditional Catholics”.

Surely it would make more sense to say that “there is a clear message that even Church-going traditional Catholics are seriously out of touch with the teachings of the Church”. If looked at in this way the ACP in their interaction with people could work towards correcting this problem — unless some of them are out of touch.
