YOUR editorial headlined ‘Politicians’ greatest challenge’ (August 31) is a breath of fresh air.

I wish to focus on the ‘Mercs and perks’ that politicians hoover up.

Each chauffeur-driven state limo costs approximately €200,000 per annum. How many of these are there?

No party leader or ‘mute’ backbencher has ever called for the abolition of the internationally recognised symbol of political corruption – the limo.

European politicians generally use public transport. How many school books could be purchased for €200,000 in a year – the cost of one politician’s limo.
