The determination of this Irish Olympian hockey squad has to be admired

It has been a long road since 1908 when Ireland was last represented by a national hockey team at the Olympic Games.

This summer the senior men’s hockey team have qualified for the games in Rio which is a tremendous achievement and honour.

Congratulations to all of the young men. We look forward to seeing you and supporting you in Rio.

You missed the games in London through a last minute goal by South Korea but you didn’t give up and came back stronger than ever. After years of intensive training, travelling and expense you have achieved the ultimate goal.

Let us all get behind this squad.
