The Bethany Homes survivors are waiting too long for justice

I was one of the first people to sign up to the 1999 Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse –but then I found out Protestants were not to be included.

So now here we are, in 2015 with a new commission for baby and mother homes and this time the poliiticans and civil servants have finally decided to include us.

Again this commission will cost taxpayers millions and still the files will be kept secret and remain so forever and for a day.

This commission is taking too long to speak to us. I fear the protestant Bethany Home people will either have developed full dementia or will have passed on without getting any justice.

We have our documents, the ‘is’ are dotted, the ‘ts’ crossed and the information is out there. We need our voices to be heard .

There’s no more than half a dozen Protestant survivors from the Bethany Home that want to go through this procedure as the rest have now given up believing that they will get justice in Ireland.

The Mother and Baby Commission should go to Mount Jerome, Harolds Cross, to see the unique sculpture with the 227 names of children who died at the Bethany Home.

It took 17 years to gather all this information.
