RTÉ’s cheap shot

I AGREE with the Spanish Ambassador’s decision to complain to RTÉ about soccer correspondent Tony O’Donoghue’s report from Barcelona on the night Spain won the World Cup.

It seems that Mr O’Donoghue went out of his way to find an extreme Catalan when it was clear there was widespread joy at the Spanish win.

More than half the Spanish team were Catalan and played for Spain with honour and pride. Tony O’Donoghue did himself and RTÉ a dishonour in trying what he thought was objective reporting when in fact it was a cheap shot.
