Pulling the plug

Before the May elections the Government promised 104 litres of water free to each child per day. The Commission for Energy Regulation informed the Committee on Environment recently that Irish Water now want to reduce that allowance (Irish Examiner, July 2).

In other words, Irish Water want to maximise profits beyond their prime directive to collect tax. Privatisation may rear its head in a few years’ time, if they continue in that vein. That would put their accountability beyond the reach of Government.

Pull the plug on Irish Water before it becomes utterly unmanageable.
