Looking the other way

Israel’s invasion of Gaza was described on RTÉ Radio 1 morning news of July 24 as an ‘offensive against militants’.

It is no such thing. Israel’s latest invasion is just another murderous chapter in the decades-old torment of a virtually defenceless people. Its ultimate purpose is to drive Palestinians out of Palestine and to steal what is left of their land.

Moshe Feiglin is deputy speaker of the Israeli parliament and a prominent member of prime minister Netanyahu’s Likud Party. On July 15, he wrote a contribution to the Israeli media network Arutz Sheva lauding the use of ‘maximum force’ to conquer all of Gaza, to ‘thoroughly eliminate’ all resistance and then to ‘encourage’ all surviving Palestinians to ‘leave’. Gaza will then ‘become part of sovereign Israel and will be populated by Jews’.

Are Western countries such as Ireland going to look the other way?
