Longwave radio is a candle in our window abroad

For 70 years, as boys and men, my brother and I listened to Radio Éireann at home and later when living abroad like the woman, Agnes Forde, whom you interviewed recently (Irish Examiner, November 7).

We listened on Athlone Medium Wave 540, then Tullamore Medium Wave 567, and on RTÉ Tara 252 Long Wave.

Its always been like the candle in the window of our lives, as Mary Robinson said when she was in the Aras.

We listen to broadcasts on radios at home and in cars and enjoy the wide and varied programming, but we, like many others, don’t listen to broadcasts on a computer or an iphone.

“Do not cast us off in the time of old age; forsake us not when our strength fails “

Please keep longwave radio in our lives.
