Kerry footballers need to play the ball not the man

In Weekend Sport (Saturday, August 22), your picture caption states, “Tommy Griffin blocks down Colm O’Neill’s effort for a point”. The picture shows him pawing O’Neill in the face, an action which could do serious eye damage.

In Monday Sport your picture caption says, “Mark O’Shea blocks Darren McCurry”, in a traditional way with both hands playing the ball.

If, or when, Griffin becomes manager of Kerry minors, as suggested on Saturday Sport, I hope he will coach them to play the ball, as O’Shea did, and refrain from pawing opponents’ faces.
