I THINK John Hume would make an excellent President of Ireland, if he would agree to accept the honour after President Mary McAleese’s term comes to a close.
It would bring great kudos to the office, as have all our presidents, especially our two women, the other being Mary Robinson, of course.
We owe an immense debt of gratitude to John Hume for his wonderful contribution to peace in Ireland.
