Government plan clearly not working

Your report (Mar 6) that the Taoiseach and Tánaiste plan to “outline today progress on the programme for Government” under an event entitled “The Plan Is Working”, sat very uneasily alongside another waffle-free report that clearly showed the opposite; the report of the 36% surge in the numbers of households unable to afford to maintain their gas supply.

In the real world the “plan” most assuredly is not working, as the report indicates that the latest quarterly figures show a significant increase in gas disconnections — “the highest quarterly figure in recent years”.

Another 4,181 households had electricity disconnected in the same quarter.

Orwell observed that political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.

With this in mind probably the best advice for those with the wherewithal to hear Kenny and Gilmore today is “caveat emptor”.
