During the Dáil debate last week on the treatment of Maíria Cahill, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny stated that all allegations of sexual abuse should be examined thoroughly.
Unfortunately, Children’s Minister James Reilly was not present in the Dail.
He was at that moment informing me and other Westbank Orphanage survivors that his proposed mother and baby homes inquiry would not be examining allegations of sexual and physical abuse in that institution.
He also informed us the Westbank orphanage will not be within the remit of the Commission of Inquiry. How can this be?
