Double standards in our stance on Russia

I think it’s ludicrous that out Foreign Minister Charlie Flanagan has pledged nearly €3 million of taxpayers money towards reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, due to the massive destruction caused during the 50 day war between Israel and Hamas in which 2,145 Palestinian citizens lost their lives.

After all it was the use of sophisticated weapons supplied by the USA and France which caused so much destruction and deaths. Last month our Foreign Minister was very vocal in calling for sanctions to be placed on Russia due to its conflict with Ukraine, but he never mentioned for sanctions to be imposed on Israel over its equally obnoxious behaviour towards Palestine.

Not until similar sanctions are imposed on Israel will the lives of the Palestine people improve. It’s a pity there’s so much double standards and hypocrisy in the world at present.
