Dog shelter volunteer deserves praise not abuse

I was disgusted to read this article (‘Dog killed in ‘savage’ attack in council shelter’ September 15) which gives an unfair and biased view of the council shelter, dog warden and wonderful lady who has been giving her own time to help to re-home hundreds of dogs which would otherwise be most likely euthanised.

Mullingar has one of the best rates of re-homing dogs in Ireland. Some council shelters automatically euthanise dogs without trying to re-home them.

This was a terrible incident but these things can happen when a number of strange dogs are together.

You also have to ask why that dog was there in the first place?

The lady in question may no longer help out there due to the online abuse that she has received.

These trolls are now responsible for the death of many more dogs due to their unfair assessment of a situation.

I got my own dog from the pound, he had been there as a pup and was taken back there by the family who had originally homed him. We saw his photo on the Mullingar Shelters page.

I would like you to do another article instead focussing on the good work that has been done and which should continue.
