THE hijacking by RTÉ of our National Song Contest went unchecked, and the country was the loser. But, now, RTÉ have the gall to kidnap the contest within their walls, and bypass songwriters throughout the country.
It is disgraceful that RTÉ sees fit to speak for the nation, but what is worse is the ineffectiveness of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, and also IMRO, who are supposed to ensure fairness and balance, and support musicians.
Our National Song Contest must be brought back to the regional heats, and then to the final at national level.
This would ensure a truly inclusive, collective contest, and give the regional areas the opportunity to become involved, and would enhance their economies.
