I COMMEND the letter by Fergus O’Leary headlined ‘Claudy: a grave injustice by people at the top’ (September 7).
One of these was Willie Whitelaw. This must mean the Conservative party in 1972 colluded in protecting a priest suspected of responsibility for the three bombs that devastated Claudy on that day, killing nine people.
As an Englishman I would like an explanation for this dereliction of duty by the Tories. More to the point, perhaps, is the need for the British government to make some gesture of repentance.
