Challenge to press

YOUR columnist Ryle Dwyer (July 10) is right to bemoan the lack of real protest despite the fact that our bankers and politicians have betrayed the country and are behaving with contempt for the rest of us.

The Government spends millions of taxpayers’ money on spindoctors and it has licence fee-funded RTÉ at its beck and call. The objective is not to let ordinary citizens get an insight into what happens behind the closed doors of the most powerful people in the land

Everyone is scapegoated except the real culprits. Too many members of the so-called free press are complicit in this situation.

Until the press holds the powerful to account, nothing will change.
