The biting satire visible or audible on Irish political life is indeed a sign of democracy, painful though it may be.
When those who mortgaged our futures and left debts on us of gigantic proportions return to power, will biting satire continue to cut through the cost? Recalling past instances of “off-air”, one hopes so.
Democratic discourses tended to dip as soon as “destiny’s troops” got the grip of state’s controls. It is as if only they get to grip when “in”, and the joke is on us. That is how it has been so far. It’s no joke when the destiny folk are in. Here and now, depression does occur, but satire survives so far.
