Anglo investigation - Delays cause suspicions

FINE GAEL are right to reiterate concerns about the inordinate delays in the Anglo Irish investigation.

They have asked that an interim report be published. Additionally they want the Minister for Justice to state when the garda file is going to be sent to the DPP.

The party’s Finance spokesman Michael Noonan has pointed out that, in America, almost 50 prosecutions have so far been secured on similar matters.

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern responded, correctly, by saying Government could not interfere in a garda investigation. Ordinarily he would be absolutely right but these are extraordinary circumstances and something must happen on these issues before an intensifying whiff becomes a stink.
