A great result for UCC yesterday as Mahoo were named winners of TG4’s Busker Abú.

The band became Ireland's top busking act after impressing the judges on last night's show.

The group is made up of UCC students Aisling Urwin, Meghan Ali Maguire and Cork based musician Bart Kondrat.

Mahoo as winners having faced off against 80 different acts over 13 weeks.

Each act had only 90 seconds to impressed judges, Aindrias De Staic, Síle Seoige and Fiachna Ó Braonáin at each stage of the competition.

“Meghan, Bart and I were thrilled to win the competition, recognising our passion for music and performing, and the show will be great platform for us in terms of exposure and our future musical paths. Studying BA Arts-Music at UCC has been a fantastic experience,” said Aisling Urwin.

UCC had double cause for celebration as graduates Claire O'Brien and Fionnuala Joyce secured second place with their band, Suantraí.

The show will be repeated on Friday evening at 5.30pm for those of you who missed last nights final.
