The UK is guaranteed its second female Prime Minister as May and Leadsom make the shortlist

Home Secretary, Theresa May and Junior Energy Minister, Andrea Leadsom will guarantee the UK its second female Prime Minister in its history.

Michael Gove’s exit from the running, with just 46 votes from the Conservative leadership contest, paved the way for the final two candidates.

Leadsom came in a distant second with 84 MPs backing her bid to May’s 199 MPs.

A postal ballot is set to be open for Conservative Party members until the 9th September, 2016 to decide on who will be Britain’s next Prime Minister.
