A look around Patrick Burns’ Rolls Royce Wraith

What are you currently driving?

Rolls Royce Wraith. I regularly attend rallies with this car.

Love at first sight, or just a means to get from A to B?

Always had a keen interest in cars. Developed an interest in vintage through my brother John but I am now totally hooked.

What’s under the bonnet?

Under the bonnet there is an impressive 4,257 cc engine with in line six cylinder, overhead valve, featuring a cross flow cylinder head. The four-speed gearbox has synchromesh on 2nd, 3rd and 4th speeds.

Petrol head or Sunday driver?

I am a bit of both. I love the runs with the vintage car clubs which are very leisurely. We get to see the countryside and it’s great to get together with people with the same interest.

What was your first car?

First car was a Morris Minor, which I bought in 1958.

What else do/did you own?

For many years I drove various models of Ford. Now I drive a Mercedes E200. My vintage collection includes a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and a ’64 Mercedes 280se.

Dream drive in dream location?

My dream drive would be in a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost —driving from Bantry to Sheep’s Head in West Cork.

Passenger you’d most like on a long journey?

In an ideal world, I would love if my wife Theresa could still travel with me on every journey I take.

Passenger you’d least like?

I would not like to be on a journey with someone who does not like to chat.

What’s on your playlist?

I like the sound of the engine and surroundings rather than listening to music when I’m out for a drive.
