UCD make a point

UCD 2 Drogheda United 2
UCD picked up another valuable point in their bid to move further out of the Premier Division relegation zone when holding Drogheda United to a draw at a sun-drenched Belfield Bowl yesterday.

Declan ‘Fabio’ O’Brien opened the visitors’ account on ten minutes but the students were level on 19 minutes when Dean Clarke picked up a loose ball in midfield, held off the attentions of Alan Byrne and fired home an angled shot.

College went in front on 54 minutes when Robbie Benson rolled a free-kick to James Kavanagh, who shot home from the edge of the box. But Drogheda were level a minute later when O’Brien latched on to a loose defensive pass to find the net.

UCD: McGinley; Matthews, Douglas, D. O’Connor, Langtry; Clarke, Creevy (McCabe 81), Benson, Kavanagh, Russell; Belhout (Burke 69).

DROGHEDA UNITED: Sava; Daly, Grimes, G. Brennan; Cassidy, O’Conor, O’Neill, R. Brennan (Marks 83), Hynes (Rusk 62), O’Brien.
