Coppell’s curse strikes again

STEVE COPPELL has tasted the pain of relegation on goal difference before, while in charge of Crystal Palace in the Premier League’s first season.

Palace needed to draw at Arsenal to guarantee safety on the final day and even a defeat would not have been fatal, if Oldham had failed to win against Southampton. But Coppell’s side were thrashed 3-0 and the Latics triumphed 4-3 to send the Londoners down.
