Hunt has eyes on double-header

STEPHEN HUNT may be a notable absentee from the Republic of Ireland squad for today’s opening Euro 2012 qualifier against Armenia and Tuesday’s visit of Andorra but the Wolves winger hasn’t yet given up hope of being fit for next month’s double-header against Russia and Slovakia.

Hunt has not played since February after picking up the foot problem that required surgery. He returned to light training yesterday and says a return to action is more likely after the international break next month. However he retains hope that he might be fit before then. “The next step will be to get a pre-season game under my belt,” he said.
