Glenn Murray’s red taints super Eagles show

West Ham 1, Crystal Palace 3:

Glenn Murray is again enjoying his football at Crystal Palace after he came close to an exit earlier in the season.

The 31-year-old scored twice in the Eagles’ 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday — before tainting a potential man of the match display as he picked up a red card for two bookable offences.

That means Murray will miss tomorrow’s game at Southampton as Palace go in search of a sixth straight away win – but he is back in the first-team fold having spent time out on loan at Reading as former boss Neil Warnock deemed him surplus to requirements. But, after Alan Pardew replaced Warnock, Murray was handed not only a lifeline but a new contract and, after a goal against Arsenal and his Upton Park brace, he is happy to be back involved.

“The training ground is a good place to be,” he said. “The lads are enjoying the sessions under the gaffer and working hard for him and you can tell that when you see the performances and the results we are getting as a group.

“Goals give a striker confidence and it was good after last week to get the start today and to come out of the game with two goals gives me a nice feeling but more importantly gives the club three important points.”

Murray’s ban will give Pardew a headache in attack at St Mary’s with Fraizer Campbell, Yaya Sanogo and Marouane Chamakh all nursing hamstring issues.

WEST HAM: Adrian, Jenkinson, Tomkins, Reid, Cresswell, Song (Nene 61), Kouyate, Noble, Downing, Valencia, Sakho.

CRYSTAL PALACE: Speroni, Ward, Dann, Delaney, Kelly, Jedinak, Zaha (Ameobi 72), Puncheon, Mutch (McArthur 33), Bolasie (Ledley 83), Murray.
