Fahey boosts hopes of Blades deal

Ireland midfielder Keith Fahey has continued his rehabilitation as he scored for Sheffield United’s U21 side yesterday while on trial at the club.

The Dubliner is a free agent having been released by Championship side Birmingham City at the end of last season and has been training with League One Sheffield United since the middle of October.

Fahey impressed as the Blades’ U21 side beat Barnsley 3-1. He scored a thumping goal to equalise for United and set up the second.

Fahey tweeted last night: “Played 1st reserve game back today for #sufc !! Won 3-1 at Barnsley.. Managed a goal & a little assist.. another step towards full fitness.”

The impressive display will boost Fahey’s hopes of earning a contract at the Yorkshire club. Senior manager Nigel Clough was a spectator for yesterday’s victory and Fahey’s display will have done his chances no harm.
