Enrique hails Messi record

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique says he is honoured to be Lionel Messi’s coach after the Argentinean became the top goalscorer in Primera Division history.

Messi bagged a treble to help Enrique’s side complete a 5-1 win over Sevilla at the Nou Camp on Saturday night, as the forward overtook Telmo Zarra’s scoring record with his 253rd goal in his 289th appearance.

“I have never seen a player like Messi,” Enrique said.

“I feel lucky to be his manager. He’s one-of-a-kind and we’ll never see anyone like him ever again and we are privileged to have him and be able to watch him.”

Messi ! opened the scoring with a sensational free-kick to draw level with former Athletic Bilbao forward Zarra as La Liga’s all-time top scorer but his strike was cancelled out by Jordi Alba’s own goal at the start of the second half.

Neymar headed Barca back in front moments later, then Ivan Rakitic extended Barca’s lead before Messi broke the scoring record after an awesome link with Neymar, and then the Argentinian struck again to complete his treble.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid strolled to a 4-0 win over Eibar. James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema with the other goals.

Champions Atletico Madrid earned a 3-1 win over Malaga, with goals from Tiago, Antoine Griezmann and Diego Godin. Roque Santa Cruz scored for Malaga.

Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus tore ligaments in his ankle during the 2-2 draw at Paderborn on Saturday after a reckless foul by Marvin Bakalorz. Dortmund face Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Dortmund’s Der Klassiker rivals Bayern Munich thrashed Hoffenheim 4-0 at the Allianz Arena. Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern a 2-0 lead at the break. Late goals from Arjen Robben and Sebastian Rode stretching the lead.

The win extends Bayern’s lead at the top to seven points over Wolfsburg and 10 over Borussia Monchengladbach after they both slumped to defeats. Wolfsburg lost 3-2 to Schalke while Monchengladbach lost 3-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt.

In Italy, Serie A leaders Juventus beat Lazio 3-0 at the weekend, Paul Pogba scoring two and Carlos Tevez one.

Roma won 3-1 at Atalanta. The Milan derby ended in a 1-1 draw last night at the San Siro. The Rossoneri took the lead in the 23rd minute though Jeremy Menez but Nigerian Joel Obi fired an equaliser on 61 minutes.
