Bale sparks 10-man Real romp

Real Madrid secured top spot in Group B with a 4-1 win over Galatasaray, despite losing Sergio Ramos to an early red card.

Defender Ramos was dismissed in the 26th minute, but 11 minutes later Gareth Bale gave Madrid the lead with a fine free-kick, only for the advantage to be almost instantly wiped out by Umut Bulut.

Alvaro Arbeloa and Angel Di Maria netted in the first 20 minutes of the second half, and Isco added a fourth.

Elsewhere in the group, Chile striker Arturo Vidal kept Juventus alive as his hat-trick earned them a 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen.

The outcome is that Juve head to Galatasaray in the final group game knowing they can guarantee qualification with a win.

Defending champions Bayern Munich almost certainly wrapped up first place in Group D with a 3-1 victory over CSKA Moscow at Khimki Arena.

An efficient performance in front of goal ensured the Germans did not slip up in the snowy conditions as Arjen Robben, Mario Gotze and a Thomas Muller penalty did the damage.

In Group C, 10-man Paris St-Germain made sure of their place in the last 16 after battling to a 2-1 win over Olympiacos.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s eighth goal of the campaign had the hosts in the driving seat, but Marco Verratti’s sending off just moments into the second half and Kostas Manolas’ equaliser 10 minutes from time seemed to have cost them dear.

However, Edinson Cavani beat the offside trap in the final minute to fire home a winner for the Parisians.

Benfica scored a dramatic late winner away to Anderlecht which earned them a 3-2 win and put them level with the second-placed Greek side on seven points.
