The day Donal Lenihan scrummaged a computer and ROG put his caps on the table

Our rugby writers warmed up for the World Cup with an intensive office session.

Ronan O’Gara, as you’d expect, was pulling the strings and dishing out instructions in the huddles.

Donal Lenihan was providing the booming words of inspiration, before threatening to push over a front row of desktops.

Rugby writers Simon Lewis and Barry Coughlan attempted some kind of truck and trailer manouver on Donal’s coat-tails, while Michael Moynihan was caught once or twice honeypotting at breakdown-time.

’Eggnostic’ rugby naysayer Larry Ryan was even spotted sniping at the fringes.

Eventually, ROG settled all arguments by showing everyone his caps.

The session was co-ordinated by the gurus at creative agency Chemistry, who eventually made the percentage decision to airbrush all the lads out of Donal’s World Cup ad.

When the lads eventually settled down to make some hard yards, our own Rugby World Cup gameplan emerged:

  • A free 48-page preview magazine out this Friday, September 11

  • A dedicated Rugby World Cup section at

  • Expert analysis at the tournament from Ronan, Donal, Simon and Brendan O’Brien.

  • An exclusive online column from ROG on Mondays.

  • Special tabloid sport pullouts every Friday, Saturday and Monday during the tournament

  • Live blogs during each Ireland game

And rugby fans will have the chance to win a trip to France v Ireland in our Rugby World Cup quiz. See Friday’s World Cup Magazine for details.
