Presentation Brothers go on rampage as St Clement’s out of their depth

PBC 60 St Clement’s 0: The one-sided nature of this Munster Senior Cup clash was of scant use to either the victors or the vanquished at Rosbrien yesterday.

Presentation Brothers College, bidding to capture their first title since 2010, will have learned little from an outing where they scored 60 points without reply, while their committed but outclassed opponents will take some time to recover from such a defeat.

The Cork side were quickly into their stride with an early penalty from Peter Sylvester, a stylish out-half blessed with a powerful and educated left foot.

Tries followed in rapid succession from Jonathan Wren, Owen Coady, Paul Buckley and Luke O’Connor with Sylvester nailing three conversions.

Despite being on the back foot for much of the time, Clements had, in captain Nathan Clancy and out-half Jordan Higgins, two backs of considerable potential but even they were unable to prevent a continuance of PBC’s dominance as the second half progressed.

Paul Buckley started and finished an attack with a try from deep in their own half and another followed quickly from scrum-half Harry Shanahan. Sylvester converted both to stretch the lead to 43-0 within a mere six minutes of the restart.

Three further tries followed from replacement James Broderick, a third for the fleet-footed Buckley and a second for polished number nine Shanahan. Sylvester converted one of those to complete the whitewash.
