Late Betty try sinks Munster A

Worcester Warriors 27 Munster A 23

British and Irish Cup: Munster A suffered their first loss in the British and Irish Cup on Saturday when a last-gasp try from Sam Betty proved the difference at Sixways.

Worcester struck first. Having applied the early pressure, out-half Tiff Eden missed a penalty but Ben Sowry soon opened the scoring with a well deserved try.

Eden added the extras to make it 7-0 but the sides were level after 15 minutes.

Munster had earlier gained a foothold in Worcester territory with Niall Kenneally was on hand to cross for a try with Rory Scannell converting.

Then Betty touching down for his first try and Eden made no mistake with the conversion.

But back came Munster when Paddy Butler was on the end of a lineout move to drive over, Scannell missing the conversion. His penalty in the 36th minute put Munster ahead but, after Alan Cotter was shown yellow, Eden regained the lead for Worcester who led 17-15 at the break.

An Eden penalty in the second-half gave his side a five-point lead in the 49th minute.

Ronan O’Mahony then got his second try in seven days after Rory and Niall Scannell combined and when Niall Scannell converted Munster led by three.

However, Betty got over at the death, after Eden decided to kick for touch rather than square the game up from the tee and his side were ruthless with their accuracy.

Mick O’Driscoll’s men now travel to Meadow Lane to face Nottingham in Round 3 of the competition on Friday night.
