Ireland Women's squad announced for historic Autumn International

The Ireland Women’s rugby squad to play England women in a historic first Autumn International match has been named.


The squad named has representatives from over a dozen Irish clubs and five established international players based outside Ireland, including Heather O’Brien and Paula Fitzpatrick who are currently playing with Stade Toulousian.

Niamh Briggs remains as captain for the squad but there are also ten new names making their debut at international level.

The ten players named uncapped at this level, Elaine Anthony, Nikki Caughey, Ciara Cooney, Mairead Coyne, Jeamie Deacon, Aine Donnelly, Zoe Grattage, Claire McLaughlin, Cliodhna Moloney and Fiona Reidy.

Ireland take on their English counterparts at the Twickenham Stoop on Saturday 14th November with a 3pm Kick off.

Speaking ahead of the game, Ireland Women’s Coach Tom Tierney said

"We are looking forward to the game in November. It’s the first time we have played an Autumn International which is another step in the development in women’s rugby. We have an opportunity to have a look at some new players and combinations building towards the 6 Nations.”
