Ferris ‘gutted’ to miss tour

Ulster flanker Stephen Ferris admits he is ‘gutted’ at missing out on Ireland’s summer tour to New Zealand with a calf complaint.

Ferris picked up the injury during last week’s Heineken Cup final defeat by Leinster at Twickenham.

His place in the 29-man touring party will be taken by Leinster back row forward Kevin McLaughlin.

Ferris tweeted: “Gutted not to be heading to Nz with the boys. Best of luck to all the lads and my mate @KMcLaughlin6 on a successful tour.”

Several positions in the squad will not be confirmed until after the game between Ireland and the Barbarians tomorrow night. A further prop, second row, back row and scrum-half will be added before the squad departs.
