Apprentice jockey Ryan Powell escaped with only minor injuries following a nasty incident in the final race at Newmarket on Saturday.
Powell was partnering the George Margarson-trained Tamayuz Star in the concluding racingfx.co.uk Handicap when his mount suffered a heart attack and crashed through the rails.
Tamayuz Star was fatally injured and Powell was taken to hospital, but was discharged later on Saturday evening.
Margarson said: “Ryan was discharged at 11pm. He hasn’t broken any bones. He’s a bit stiff and sore, but otherwise he’s okay.
“He never lost consciousness or anything like that. He was showing all the right signs straight after the fall, but I was keen for him to go to hospital just in case.
“Ryan has ridden the horse a lot this year and rode him in a lot of his work, so he was gutted by what happened. It’s always hard to take when something like this happens, but it’s one of those things and the main thing is Ryan is fine.
“I think he’ll be riding out again this week and be back riding by the weekend.”
