More Olympia joy for O’Connor

Cian O’Connor proved London’s Olympia is his “lucky show” again yesterday by taking his second win of the week.

On Wednesday, the Meath-based rider won the Christmas Pudding Stakes with Splendor and Ahmed Tolba’s 13-year-old gelding that provided him with more festive cheer yesterday, as the pair won the 1.60m Santa Stakes.

O’Connor’s opening victory came with 2.5 seconds to spare, while yesterday’s repeat also showed a generous margin, as he beat French runner-up Penelope Leprevost on Nice Stephanie by well over a second, after six horses from a 27-strong field lined out in the jump-off.

He followed up later with third place in a speed class on the mare ISHD Dual Star.
