Drop in class can do the trick for Highly Toxic

Highly Toxic must be strongly-fancied to give trainer Pat Flynn his first success of 2015 in the Fethard Maiden in Clonmel.

The grey Dalakhani gelding boasts a rating of 96, which might be a little flattering. But he still looks head and shoulders above his nine rivals and should triumph under Fran Berry.

Highly Toxic competed at a high level last spring m when fifth to Fascinating Rock in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown before flopping in a Tramore maiden at the end of May.

Off the track until last month, he probably needed the run when fifth to Neverushacon in a Limerick maiden and progressed well to make a bold bid in the recent Martin Molony Stakes, a listed event on the same track.

He forced the pace and was only collared inside the final furlong by the smart Answered, who forged clear for an impressive win.

Waltzing Matilda (third in a Group 3 at the Curragh on Monday) stayed on to deny Highly Toxic second spot, although he finished ahead of 104-rated Roheryn.

Dropping in class, Highly Toxic has a golden opportunity to belatedly open his account, at the probable expense of Tetraites, narrowly beaten by Ripple Effect at Limerick.

Jim Bolger has definite prospects in the other two maidens, with Deontas and Just Be Lucky respectively.

Fourth behind subsequent winners Edelpour and King Of Aragon at Gowran last time, and dropping in trip, 79-rated Deontas sets a decent standard in the opening fillies event.

And 78-rated Just be Lucky, fourth to In My Pocket at Navan last time, has the Ger Lyons-trained filly Brown Bee to beat in the West Gate Median Auction Maiden.

Gordon Elliott might land the featured Tipperary Cup with recent Aintree winner Taglietelle, a first ride on the racecourse for former pony racing champion Jack Kennedy.
