Boylesports end Cheltenham sponsorship

IRISH bookmakers Boylesports are to end their sponsorship of the International meeting at Cheltenham in December after four years.

The main event of the two-day fixture is the International Hurdle, whose most recent winners were Binocular and Khyber Kim, who went on to fight out the finish of the 2010 Champion Hurdle.

Boylesports head of marketing Mark Nunan said: “The original objective of the Boylesports.com International Hurdle was to build brand awareness in Ireland and the UK.

“We can safely say that this objective was successfully achieved and we look forward to exploring more opportunities in racing in the coming year.”

*Owner Harry Findlay will be represented by a barrister expert in sports disciplinary hearings in his appeal against his warning off for six months by the BHA.

Roderick Moore, of Exeter legal firm Colleton Chambers, will be instructed by solicitor Daryl Cowan in the hearing which starts at 9am in London today.

Findlay was found guilty last month of two charges of laying Gullible Gordon, who raced for a partnership of his mother Maggie and Paul Barber, to lose in 2008 and 2009 on Betfair, falling foul of a rule that “debars an owner from laying his horse to lose”.

Findlay will be appealing against the severity of the ban, which he argues was disproportionate to the seriousness of his offence, and under the rules of racing “no reasonable decision maker could have decided upon it.”

The Chambers and Partners Guide, one of the leading legal directories, in 2008 referred to Moore’s “unique knowledge of the racing and bloodstock sector”.

Findlay’s ban is due to run from June 11 to December 10.

The BHA panel will be chaired by Sir Roger Buckley, who will be joined by Christopher Hodgson and Jane Gillies.
