‘Spike’ favours March date

Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan reckons March 2 might be a more realistic date for his WBO International title defence against Farai Musiyiwa at the Neptune Stadium in Cork.

The Cork middleweight was due to put his belt on the line versus the Zimbabwean orthodox at the venue in December.

But the bout was postponed after the undefeated Leesider was forced to pull out of the 16th fight of his career with a rib injury.

The date for the new outing has been set for February 23 according to website Boxerec, but O’Sullivan is looking at the first Saturday in March.

“I actually broke my ribs, admitted the Irish champion. “Christmas marked the third week of the injury and I was told to rest it for six weeks by the doctor.

“I’m training away as always, but I can’t spar for another few weeks.”
