Snowy Free can claim maiden success

Snowy Free can take the opening race of 2016 at Curraheen Park for Eamonn and Rachel Morton.

The July pup hasn’t perfected the art of trapping and yet, off a slow start, was just behind the pace as they raced the opening bends. The bitch was very badly baulked early in the backstraight and, in the circumstances, did well to finish within hailing distance of the winner.

Avoiding an early clash with Ashgrove Shadow would seem key to the selection’s chance and if she can do that, she looks good enough to earn her maiden success.

Star Ace has a bit in hand over his rivals in race ten. Paddy Everard’s dog enjoys a significant drop in class, following narrow and somewhat unlucky defeats in open and A1 class on his last two outings. With a similar display, he’ll take holding.

Burgess Import was impressive on his most recent outing, which came after a lengthy absence, and he can follow up in the final race. The November ’13 whelp is back to the top level after that success, but he’s entitled to have come on for the run. Sheila Spillane and JJ Fennelly’s dog can make the most of an ideal draw to score at the expense of Gringos Ace.

The feature at Shelbourne Park is the re-run of the Gain Dog Foods Christmas Oaks, and while Ballydoyle Honey fully merits her position as a hot favourite, there may be greater value in siding with Yahoo Perlena.

The latter has shown tremendous early pace in most of her races and if able to clear Hovex Princess on the run-up will make them all go. With plenty of early dash in the race, the favourite is going to have to be at her peak to pick her way through the field. Undoubtedly, she is the best in the race, but Yahoo Perlena is taken to make all from her favourable draw.

Priceless Lassie is drawn to take the 750 for Paul Hennessy. The return to this trip is a positive for the strong-running sort and a reproduction of her November 7 form will make her hard to beat. Fire Height Amy has been in good form recently and she rates the biggest danger to the selection.
