Spectacular conditions made for a perfect end to Calves Week at Schull Harbour Sailing Club yesterday where lady skippers were the highlight of the prize-giving ceremony.
Judy McGrath’s Bonanza from the Royal Cork Yacht Club won Class 2 under IRC handicap with three wins from four races in an 11 strong line-up.
Oonagh Buckley from Schull Harbour SC won the overall ECHO prize for her victory in Class 4. Counting a first and second plus a fourth, her win came from a three-way tie-break with Cove SC’s Bombora and Raffles from Schull Harbour.
Paul O’Higgins’ crew on Rockabill V from the Royal Irish YC held off a strong challenge from Conor Doyle’s Freya in Class 1 to win overall on IRC handicap. However, the Kinsale yacht picked up the class win under ECHO handicap, narrowly beating Schull’s Gabby Hogan on Growler..
A win yesterday under IRC handicap for Leslie Parnell in Class 2 was his second for the week and along with two second places delivered the overall win. He also won the ECHO event for the same class.
Tralee Bay SC’s Diarmuid Dineen’s Growler won the Class 3 ECHO overall prize.
Schull Harbour SC dominated the two White Sails divisions with overall wins for Don McCarthy V.S.O.P. and Frank Murphy’s Dream Catcher respectively in Divisions 1 and 2 under ECHO handicap.
