Dublin Inter replace fallen Star in Men’s SuperLeague

Belfast Star have withdrawn from the Nivea For Men’s SuperLeague.

The club, which played a critical role in the evolution of Irish basketball under father and son pairing Danny and Adrian Fulton will be replaced by newcomers Dublin Inter.

Previously known as Ballon Basketball Club, they will host last season’s beaten finalists DCU Saints in the opening game of the Nivea For Men’s SuperLeague season at the National Arena on September 28.

Reigning champions UL Eagles face a tricky opening encounter away to Neptune, while Moycullen and Killester take on UCC Demons and UCD Marian respectively.

The format of the league in 2012-’13 will include eight teams and will operate on a three-round league format, with the league winners being determined by table position at the end of the 21-game season.

A new end of season competition will be introduced. For 2012-’13, this will involve the league and Cup winners and the next best placed two teams in the league at the end of the season. This format will be reviewed for 2013-’14.

In the Nivea Women’s SuperLeague, which starts on the weekend of October 6, champions UL, who went the entire of last season unbeaten, welcome Killester to the UL Arena and beaten finalists Team Montenotte Hotel have a date with Meteors.
