Conlon and Barnes to take part in fundraiser

BOXING: Olympic heroes Michael Conlon and Paddy Barnes will be among 24 boxers who will compete in a tournament, in memory of the late Liam Walsh, father of IABA High Performance Unit head coach, Billy.

The tournament on Saturday, December 6 in St Joseph’s Club, Bishopswater, Wexford town will be an annual fundraising event for the St Joseph’s/St Ibar’s Boxing Club, which was founded by Liam 25 years ago. Tickets are €20 from the club on 053 9145269.

Meanwhile Ireland will be taking home at least three bronze medals from the 33-nation European Junior Championships in Anapa, Russia.

Kieran Molloy, Michael Nevin and Aaron McKenna won their quarter-finals yesterday to book their places into Friday’s semi-finals.

But there was last-eight disappointment for Terry McEntee, John Nevin, Shane Flavin, Blaine O’Brien, James McGivern and Oran Keddle.
